Eukaryotic cell cycle :
- Human body contains around 100 trillion cells.
- Development, growth & repair of the tissues depend on cell division whose rate
differs from tissue to tissue.
- Cell cycle is the series of events that take place in a cell leading to its division and
duplication (replication) that produces two daughter cells.
- It includes 2 main phases :
A. Interphase : preparatory phase before mitosis & it`s divided into :
G 0 : resting (non-dividing) phase.
G1(6-12 h): cell grows in size,RNA &proteins are synthesized
S : DNA replication (synthesis).
G2 : cell continues to grow in size ,repair of DNA errors.
B. Mitosis : cell division into 2 daughter cells , consists of 4 phases (see figure):
Prophase (chromatin condense into chromosomes)
Metaphase (chromosomes line up along metaphase plate)
Anaphase (chromosomes break at centromer, polar move)
Telophase & cytokinesis (cell cleavage to 2 daughter cells).
