• Clinical picture :<br />

A. Latent (inactive) TB :<br />

- 25% of cases remains asymptomatic (inactive or latent TB)<br />

- Non-infectious to others.<br />

- PPD test +ve.<br />

- Normal CXR & -ve sputum test.<br />

B. Active TB :<br />

General features :<br />

1. Night fever , prolonged.<br />

2. Night sweating.<br />

3. Significant weight loss ,cachexia.<br />

4. Toxic look , lethargy,malaise ,arthralgia.<br />

Pulmonary TB :<br />

1. Cough & sputum (prolonged)<br />

2. Dyspnoea , chest pain<br />

3. Pleural effusion.<br />

4. Haemoptysis ( cavitary `open` TB)<br />

5. Becomes chronic TB with scaring of upper lung lobe.<br />
