Herpes (HSV-2) >> Chanchroid.<br />

Syphilis > lymphogranuloma venerium & granuloma inguinale<br />

Genital herpes<br />

- Is most often caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).<br />

- Primary attacks are often severe and associated with fever whilst subsequent<br />

attacks are generally less severe and localised to one site<br />

HSV-1<br />

Cold sores , TTT : topical acyclovir<br />

Syphilis<br />

- Is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the spirochaete Treponema pallidum.<br />

Infection is characterised by primary, secondary and tertiary stages.<br />

- A painless ulcer (chancre) is seen in the primary stage.<br />

- The incubation period= 9-90 days.<br />

1ry stage (chancre)<br />

Chancre :<br />

- Painless ulcer at the<br />

site of sexual contact<br />

- Often not seen in<br />

women<br />

2ndry stage<br />

(4-10 wks after 1ry infection)<br />

Fever , lymphadenopathy<br />

Rash /trunk ,palms,sole<br />

Buccal snail track ulcers (30%)<br />

Condylomata lata<br />

3ry (latent) stage (Gumma)<br />

Syphilitic gumma.<br />

Aortic aneurysm.<br />

General paralysis of the<br />

insane<br />

Tabes dorsalis of dorsal<br />

column (proprioception,<br />

vibration, fine touch)<br />
