Water Based Drilling Fluids
6. When the fluid system becomes depleted of ALPLEX ® , any or a combination of the
following may be observed:
• The pH of the fluid drops below pH 10.0.
• The cuttings over the shakers will become soft and sticky. Blinding of the shaker
screens may occur.
• The fluid viscosity and rheological properties will generally increase.
• Tight spots, excessive torque and drag, and bit balling may develop.
Standards Preparation for Instrument Calibration
Note:
Graduated cylinders, beakers, and pipettes should be rinsed with distilled water and dried
between each use.
1. Place 30 ml of 0.0010 M(10 Standard) Potassium Fluoride solution into a plastic
graduated cylinder.
2. Pour the 30 ml of 0.0010 M Potassium Fluoride solution into a plastic beaker.
3. Deliver by pipette or 10cc plastic syringe 3 ml of the Acetic Acid/Potassium Acetate
Buffer into the plastic beaker of 0.0010 M Potassium Fluoride solution.
4. Swirl the beaker contents to ensure proper mixing. Allow the solution to set for five
minutes.
5. Place 30 ml of 0.010 M (100 Standard) Potassium Fluoride solution into a plastic
graduated cylinder.
