Step Two – Data Analysis<br />

The second step is data collection, analysis and benchmarking. Historical data pertaining to the<br />

project or well is collected from offset wells, if applicable, or similar type wells if offset data is not<br />

available. This data may include, but is not limited to, days per 10,000 feet, cost, non-productive time<br />

analysis, drilling fluid volumes consumed, drilling fluid volume lost to the formation, pore pressure<br />

versus depth, non-productive time, cuttings volume per foot, cost of waste management, etc. The<br />

data is analyzed to determine percentile rankings, benchmarks and possible bottlenecks and/or risks.<br />

The type of data to collect and analyze will depend upon the expectations and conditions of the<br />

operation. A list of commonly used parameters is included in Table 14 - 1.<br />
