and regular cleaning of surfaces and objects used in patient care . The medical

worker should wear a mask when a patient may cough or sneeze in the face of

the medical worker or student. This practice is extremely effective in avoiding

Precautions status as well as those having

symptoms of respiratory diseases. Patients

who are under Respiratory Precautions must

wear a mask when being transported about

the facility, as their sputum may harbor the

organism for several days and infect the

unprotected worker and any others who may

have come in contact.
