on the container must be observed. Some results are available immediately, but
the leukoesterase portion requires a 2-minute wait, all of which are accounted for
when using a strip reader. Manual reading of the strip is shown in Figure 12-9.
Microscopic Urinalysis
After completing the examination of the urine sample for physical characteristics
and performing the dipstick chemistry component of the urinalysis, an aliquot of
the sample is centrifuged for microscopic analysis for the formed elements of urine.
