Cold Weather Cap<br />
Enlisted rate/pay grade insignia consist of embroidered and metal collar insignia and<br />
embroidered sleeve markings. All insignia will be machine or hand-stitched in place<br />
using thread the color of the uniform with a minimum of six stitches per inch. Collar<br />
insignia will consist of metal or embroidered collar insignia indicating the wearer’s<br />
rate/pay grade. There will be no mixing of the two types of collar insignia. The insignia<br />
is worn on both collars of all uniform shirts, except for the white dress shirt.<br />
During wartime or other emergency conditions, the senior officer present may require<br />
subdued insignia for all personnel when the wearing of normal metal bright finish<br />
insignia would be considered hazardous.<br />
Although, metal collar insignia are standard, embroidered sew-on cloth collar insignia are<br />
standard on the Operational Dress Uniform (ODU) only.<br />
Enlisted Rate/Pay Grade Insignia<br />
The chief petty officer collar insignia will<br />
consist of a 15/16 inch gold metal fouled<br />
anchor with a silver shield superimposed on<br />
the shank. One, two, or three stars are<br />
attached to the stock to designate senior and<br />
master chief petty officers and the Master<br />
Chief Petty Officer of the <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong>,<br />
respectively.<br />
The petty officer collar insignia consists of<br />
one, two, or three metal, gold chevrons<br />
indicating third class, second class, and first<br />
class respectively; mounted under a silver<br />
<strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> shield.<br />
