Cold Weather Cap
Enlisted rate/pay grade insignia consist of embroidered and metal collar insignia and
embroidered sleeve markings. All insignia will be machine or hand-stitched in place
using thread the color of the uniform with a minimum of six stitches per inch. Collar
insignia will consist of metal or embroidered collar insignia indicating the wearer’s
rate/pay grade. There will be no mixing of the two types of collar insignia. The insignia
is worn on both collars of all uniform shirts, except for the white dress shirt.
During wartime or other emergency conditions, the senior officer present may require
subdued insignia for all personnel when the wearing of normal metal bright finish
insignia would be considered hazardous.
Although, metal collar insignia are standard, embroidered sew-on cloth collar insignia are
standard on the Operational Dress Uniform (ODU) only.
Enlisted Rate/Pay Grade Insignia
The chief petty officer collar insignia will
consist of a 15/16 inch gold metal fouled
anchor with a silver shield superimposed on
the shank. One, two, or three stars are
attached to the stock to designate senior and
master chief petty officers and the Master
Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard,
respectively.
The petty officer collar insignia consists of
one, two, or three metal, gold chevrons
indicating third class, second class, and first
class respectively; mounted under a silver
Coast Guard shield.
