For the authorized<br />

military appearance:<br />

Cell Phones, Pagers,<br />

Handheld or Pocket<br />

Electronic Devices<br />

Music Headphones and<br />

Earphones<br />

Items will be:<br />

Worn with uniform of the day as required only for military<br />

duties or a legitimate urgent need, clipped to waistband behind<br />

side seam of shirt or in pocket if they do not detract from<br />

uniform appearance. Items are not authorized if participating in<br />

ceremonial details.<br />

Not worn while in uniform or with a cover except while<br />

commuting as a passenger or using public transportation.<br />

Umbrella Plain black or navy blue, expandable, straight handle. Must be<br />

carried in left hand.<br />

Religious Items Concealed or worn only during religious services.<br />

Religious Headgear Black or match the hair color of wearer. Must be of a style and<br />

size that it can be completely covered by and not interfere with,<br />

the wearing or appearance of any uniform military headgear. It<br />

cannot cover any portion of the face or forehead. It cannot<br />

interfere with the proper wear or functioning of protective<br />

clothing or equipment. It cannot bear any writing, symbols or<br />

pictures, including writing or images woven into the fabric or<br />

the headgear and it will not be worn in place of uniform<br />

military uniform headgear when such uniform headgear is<br />

required in accordance with current <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> uniform<br />

regulation.<br />

Backpacks, Briefcases, or<br />

Gym Bags<br />

Safety Equipment or<br />

Protective Gear<br />

Civilian bags (e.g., computer bags/briefcases, gym bags,<br />

backpacks, garment bags, etc., this does not include women’s<br />

handbags/purses) may be worn with the working and service<br />

uniforms in the manner prescribed below:<br />

All bags worn with the uniform must conceal its contents and<br />

be either solid black or navy blue in color. There will be no<br />

personal ornamentation attached on or to the bag.<br />

Computer bag/brief case and backpacks: may be worn across<br />

the left shoulder of the Tropical Blue or Winter Dress Blue<br />

uniform to facilitate saluting. When wearing a bag, the strap<br />

must be worn across the left shoulder (fore and aft) with the<br />

bag hanging on the same side of the body. The case or bag will<br />

not be worn with the strap and bag on the opposite sides of the<br />

body (diagonally). Backpacks may also be worn over both<br />

shoulders (forward to aft) when wearing the ODU. Will not be<br />

worn in any uniform more formal than the Tropical Blue<br />

uniform. Must be hand carried only.<br />

Kept in proper working condition and worn only in situations<br />

where required due to the specific hazards of the mission or<br />

task.<br />
