Shoes with high gloss synthetic upper portions (generally known as Corfram�) will not be worn aboard <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> vessels or aircraft unless specifically authorized by the commanding officer for short-term temporary uses. A flat wedge style sole which rises 1 inch is authorized. FORMAL DRESS SHOES (Women Only) SAFETY BOOTS Safety boots must be worn while performing work that requires protection of the feet Formal Black Pumps The formal black pumps may be made of suede, silk, or poie de soie with closed heels and toes. The standard-issue safety boot is the Super Boot II, plain black, quick-laced, high-top (Eight –Ten inch high) boot with a reinforced composite (not steel) toe. They are fully lined with Gortex, completely waterproof with a Vibram sole, brass eyelets with rubber coating. However, these boots are not insulated. Protective footwear must comply with the American Society for testing Materials (ASTM) Document number ASTM-f2413-05 (as updated on (3/11/05)).
