1950-1953 The Korean War rages June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953.<br />

1950<br />

June 27 The UN Security Council adopts a resolution requesting<br />

member states to assist the Republic of Korea, of which 16<br />

respond.<br />

July 7 The UN Security Council adopts a resolution to integrate the<br />

UN combat units into one organization.<br />

July 15 South Korea transfers operational command to the US.<br />

July 24 The United Nations Command (UNC) is founded on the basis<br />

of the July 7 UN Security Council resolution.<br />

1953<br />

July 27 The Armistice Agreement is signed.<br />

July 29 At the second MAC meeting, the North protests that the South<br />

had violated the Armistice Agreement.<br />

July 30 The third MAC meeting permits military police in the DMZ<br />

instead of civilian police. The North protests that the South had<br />

violated the Armistice Agreement.<br />

July 31 The fourth MAC meeting reaches agreement that civilian<br />

police will be armed with rifles and pistols. The North protests<br />

that the South had violated the Armistice Agreement.<br />

August onwards North Korea hinders NNSC inspections in the ports of entry.<br />

August 1 The NNSC holds its first meeting.<br />

August 4 At the seventh MAC meeting, the South submits a reply to the<br />

North’s protests against armistice violations up to July 31.<br />

August 5 At the eighth MAC meeting, the South admits a violation after<br />

the North’s protests against crossings of the MDL (no. 1).<br />
