American troops from South Korea. The South argues that<br />

the troops help to protect freedom and achieve peaceful<br />

re-unification.<br />

November 3 At the 112th MAC meeting, the North demands the withdrawal<br />

of American troops from South Korea.<br />

December 23 At the 199th MAC secretary meeting, the North protests<br />

against espionage, but the South denies the claim.<br />

North’s claim that a fighter plane had violated its airspace.<br />

February 5 At the 201st MAC secretary meeting, the South rejects the<br />

North’s protest against crossings of the MDL by military<br />

airplanes.<br />

February 11 At the 114th MAC plenary meeting, the North criticizes the<br />

South for rearming, but the South refers to its cancellation of<br />

Paragraph 13(d) in 1957. The South had rearmed only to<br />

maintain relative military balance.<br />
