July 6 At the 211th MAC secretary meeting, the South protests that<br />

two armed soldiers from the North had crossed the MDL, one<br />

of whom one was killed, but the North asserts that the protest<br />

was fabricated.<br />

July 8 At the 121st MAC plenary meeting, the North claims that to<br />

achieve peace in the Korean peninsula the US troops who<br />

obstruct re-unification should immediately be withdrawn.<br />

July 19 At the 122nd MAC meeting, the North requests the withdrawal<br />

of US troops, but the South responds that it was not an issue for<br />

the MAC.<br />

July 27 At the 123rd MAC meeting, the North urges a US troop<br />

withdrawal.<br />

The North accuses a UNC naval vessel of having intruded on<br />

July 22 and fired cannons at a North Korean police vessel on<br />

patrol and then disappeared. The South denies the claim.<br />

August 3 At the 124th MAC meeting, the North criticizes South Korea<br />

for having attacked and seized a North Korean patrol vessel on<br />

July 30. The South explains that the North’s police vessel had<br />

fired first and that the ship had been sunk in self-defence.<br />

August 11 At the 214th MAC secretary meeting, the South claims that the<br />

North’s protests against intrusions of fishing boats were<br />

groundless.<br />

The South rejects the North’s protest against intrusions of its<br />

airspace.<br />

September 6 At the 216th MAC secretary meeting, the South admits the<br />

North’s protest that fighter planes had intruded into its<br />

airspace (no. 23).<br />

September 16 At the 217th MAC secretary meeting, the South admits the<br />

North’s protest made on September 6 that two F-86 fighters on<br />

September 2 had intruded into the North’s airspace (no. 24).<br />

October 6 At the 128th MAC plenary meeting, the North urges the return<br />

of the vessel and the dead bodies from the July 30 incident. The<br />

South had not raised the vessel, but the fishermen were<br />
