The name derives from the
nearby sources of the Potenza
River. It was the feud of the Da
Varano family from Camerino.
With the end of the domination
of the Da Varano family, the
Popedom took the government
of the territory.
WORTH VISITING
The Sanctuary of Madonna di
Valcora, whose actual complex
dates 1728, is situated in a very
charming woody landscape, on
the top of the Mount Bordaino:
inside is the main altar, a Crucifixion
with Madonna, St. Giovanni
and Angels, a fresco attributed
to Girolamo di Giovanni.
Worth visiting is the 14 th
century Fortress of Spindoli, located
in the hamlet Spindoli on
a 650 m high spur; the Fortress
of Laverino (or St. Lucia), built
in 1020 by Rodolfo Monaldo
III, belonging to the Counts of
Nocera; the Castle of Orve,
which dates from the 13 th century;
the Church of the Crucifix
of Romitella of the 14 th century,
which preserves lots of frescoes;
the Church of St. Maria di
Laverino of the 14 th century
with wonderful frescoes, dated
1406, and a painting of the 16 th
century representing the Virgin.

Fiuminata is a typical mountain
village of great interest
from the landscape point of
view, located in the upper Valley
of Potenza.

Local specialities are: salami,
cheese, potatoes, black truffles,
mushroom and cakes like “crescia
sfogliata” (puff pizza bread).
SOMETHING TO DO
It is the starting point for beautiful
excursions on foot or by
mountain bike on the green surrounding
tablelands. The park
is considered one of the best
hang-gliding areas in Italy. The
climbing wall, the first to be
opened in the Marche, can boast
60 climb ways (from the 4 th to
the 8 th difficulty level). Moreover,
the following sport facilities
are available: soccer field,
Boules (Italian Bocce) rink,
tennis courts, five-a-side football
field, basketball-volleyball
grounds, hang-gliding school
area, skating rink, indoor
Boules rink centre, gym and a
small lake for sport fishing.
WORH DISCOVERING
The natural environment is perhaps
the greatest resource of the
territory, as there are different
areas of a great naturalistic and
landscape value: Mount Gemmo
(1250 m), Mont Pennino
(1571 m), the meadows of “Le
Spiante” (1100 m) and Mount
Merennino (950 m), the ponds
situated in Stoini, ancient
woods, numerous mineral
springs and the Potenza River
with its sources. You can enjoy
different historical-cultural excursions
to visit the numerous
abbeys of the area.
