MONTE RINALDO
According to the tradition the
village was founded by a Norman
noble man in 1061. But the
ruins of an impressive historic
Roman Sanctuary of the 2 nd -1 st
centuries before Christ, discovered
in the 50s and in 60s,
might be evidences of the presence
of the Roman civilization
in the area between the 3 rd and
the 1 st century before Christ. In
1063 the village is mentioned
as a property of the Bishop of
Fermo. A few centuries later
the village submitted voluntarily
to Fermo. At beginnings of
the 15 th century Monte Rinaldo
was appropriated by Carlo
Malatesta.
WORTH VISITING
Entry is through a 16 th century
Gate; go ahead to the main
square, on which is Palazzo
Giustiniani, a splendid example
of rococo architecture,
boasting a beautiful 18 th century
facade and fine decorated
windows. The parish Church of
SS. Sacramento and Rosario of
the 18 th century contains two
A. Liozzi’s altar-pieces. Don’t
miss visiting the Curch of Soccorso,
with very plain architecture,
but very interesting, indeed.
SOMETHING MORE TO
DISCOVER
In the hamlet Cuma, sited amid
picturesque agricultural fields,
is the archaeological site, with
the historic Sanctuary and ruins
of a temple. The splendid
external portico is composed
by a double line of tuff Ionic
and Doric columns, 14 of
which still preserve pedestal.
Antefixes, oil lamps, ex voto,
dedicated to the goddess
Cupra, clay statues decorating
the temple gable, as well as
traces of an inscription, have
been found out during the excavations.
WORTH TASTING
Apart from the delicious Ascoli
typical products, the area is famous
for vegetables and fruits
cultivated in the Aso Valley:
peaches, plums, apricots,
strawberries, pears, grapes and
cherries, exported to the main
European markets and used to
make delicious jams. Chestnut
woods provide delicious marrons.

unforgettable mountain-bike
excursions; for those looking
for relax, we recommend
leisurely and healthy walks, instead.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Like many other surrounding
villages, Monte Rinaldo is a
“belvedere”, overlooking the
Aso Valley beneath, sited in a
stunningly beautiful landscape.
During walking tours and excursion,
enjoy the peculiar skyline
of some of the surrounding
mountains, sculpted by erosion
over the centuries. The near

Castle of Bucchiano housing
remains of a Roman tomb is also
worth a visit. Not far from
Montorso is the Church of St.
Maria, holding some frescoes,
dating from the 16 th century.
