The origins of Force date from
the 5 th century before Christ,
when, peoples of the area settled
there to protect themselves from
attacks during the barbarian invasions.
After year 1000 Force
became a possession of the
Abbey of Farfa, but since the
13 th century it began to assert its
independence and fighting to
become a free Municipality. In
1804 it obtained the status of
Town, thanks to Pope Pius VII.
WORTH VISITING
The Collegiate Church of St.
Paolo, built on the ruins of an
earlier Farfense Church (12 th
century), preserves the Roman
apse and Simone De Magistris’
artworks. The Church of St.
Francesco (19 th century) was
rebuilt on a previous Romanesque
church, designed by
Giuseppe Sacconi. The suburban
Church of Santa Maria
delle Grazie is built in Romanesque
style. The Church of
St. Stefano, in the hamlet Montecchio,
as well as the Church of
St. Taddeo are also recommended.
Worth seeing is also the 18 th
century Town Hall, dominated
by the Civic Tower, the Palace
del Priorato and Villa Verrucchio
of the 20 th century, built in
an eclectic oriental style.

DISCOVER
The town of Force is also
known as the “Land of
Calderai” for its copper handicraft
manufacturing, an ancient
FORCE
activity introduced in the 16 th
century by the Farfensi monks.
The origin of its name is due to
its nature of place of transition
(“fork”) between the valleys of
Tronto, Tesino and Aso.
WORTH TASTING
Local specialities are pecorino
cheese, polenta, lamb, wild
boar, truffles, porcini mushrooms
and vincotto (literally
cooked wine).

are available: a soccer field, a
motocross field and a multipurpose
sports field.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Force is a pleasant town, situated
on the crest Aso-Tesino, that
falls into the Sibillini Mountain
Community (Comunità Montana
dei Sibillini), a territory
rich in history and culture and
with an outstanding natural
landscape. Within the village
you can find the Municipal Park
Villino Verrucchio. The town is
suitable for pleasant historicalcultural
and panoramic walks
across the picturesque old town.
