The earliest mention of the
Castle of Monteciccardo dates
1283, as Castrum Monti Sicari.
Historians relate about the existence
of three different Castles
in the second half of the
18 th century: the Castle of
Monteciccardo, The Castle of
Montegaudio and The castle of
S. Maria, each of them having
its own administrative independence.
After Napoleon’s
defeat the three castles were
aggregated and Monteciccardo
became the chief town. The village
was strongly damaged
during the last world war: 90%
of the houses were destroyed
by troops passing over to the
front and, than, because of
Gothic Line military operations.
WORTH VISITING
Among the big number of
monuments, don’t miss pay a
visit to the Church of St. Sebastiano,
built in the far past and
restored in the 18 th century,
containing a worthy 16 th century
painting by Bartolomeo
Gentile from Urbino, the castle
walls, partly restored, the Convent
of Friars Servants of
Mary, housing the Borderline
Museum of modern Art, exhibition
centre, headquarters of the
Marchigiana Filarmonics and
Seat of the Art direction of the
Montegridolfo Accademy and
Astor Piazzolla Music Centre.
Closed to the convent is the
Church of St. Maria delle Grazie.
Also to see are the Tower in
Montegaudio and the Church
of St. Michele Arcangelo, old
rural parish Church with interesting
ribbed bell tower, 17 th
century stuccoes and paintings,
dating from 15 th until 17 th century,
as well as sacred furniture
and vestments.
Remains of the Castle of St.
Maria are the castle walls and
the original old village houses;
also to be seen are the Church
of St. Agata, the little Church of
St. Giacomo and the Church of
Villa Ugolini, located in a pine
and laurel bush wood.
Of great interest is the Church
of Villa Berti, a small yet harmonious
rural building. Contact
the Town Hall to book
guided visits of all the mentioned
monuments.

wood-carving manufactures,
Arte Povera furniture, leather
furniture optional, hand painted
porcelain dolls, painted furniture,
paintings in fresco, frescoes
worked out on canvas and
wood, enamelled silver bijouterie.

Delicious local products like
cheese, organic honey, royal
jelly, oil and officinal herbs.

pool and multi-purpose centre

WORTH DISCOVERING
Noteworthy are Villa Monti
and the surrounding park. Of
great interest is also the old
wood, owned by the Perticari
family, who used to host at its
Villa Gioacchino Rossini and
other Italian literary exponents.
During the summer time it’s
the scene of different cultural
events. Many historical and
naturalistic routes are available
in the Pesaro hilly country side.
