FRANCAVILLA D’ETE
The earliest mention of Francavilla
d’Ete dates 1157, when
it was a property of the Bishop
of Fermo. When Averardo della
Campana, Italian condottiere
(captain of the mercenary
troops) took over the village,
the Municipality of Fermo
bought it off in 1385. The later
history of Francavilla d’Ete is
part of the history of Fermo.
WORTH VISITING
In the historic centre it is still
possible to see the remains of
the walls with six Keeps and
two Gates. Outside the town
walls is the Church of St. Rocco
di Montpellier, containing two
valuable frescoes of the 16 th
century: Nativity and Crucifixion,
attributed to Vincenzo Pagani.
Near the municipal gardens
is the Parish Church of SS.
Pietro and Paolo, designed in
the 19 th century by Giuseppe
Sacconi. Two wooden crosses,
representing the Eastern Art
tradition of the 17 th century, are
preserved in the Church. Off
the village you can visit the
stunningly beautiful Rural
Church Madonnetta, housing a
16 th century fresco, showing a
Madonna with Child and
Saints, created by a local artist.
WORTH TASTING
Food and wine tradition, including
for example extra virgin
oil, vincotto (literally
cooked wine), handmade pasta
and cakes (frustingo), has been
preserved up to the present.
Pappardelle with hare meat
ragù-sauce and vincisgrassi are
absolutely recommended.
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: Boules (Italian
Bocce) rink, soccer field and a
multi-purpose sport ground.
WORTH DISCOVERING
