MOUNTAIN DEWS
Tavoleto is sited ontop a rocky
spur on the leftside of the
Foglia Mid-Valley. Originated
in the Middle Ages, it has been
a contested territory between
the Malatesta and the Montefeltro
families during centuries.
The Dukes of Urbino
erected there a Rocca, that was
demolished in 1865.
WORTH VISITING
The village lies in the heart of
the Montefeltro, a land characterized
by castles, medieval
borghi, rural parish churches
and defence walls, erected and
demolished during centuries
of disputes. A typical example
is the Castle of Petrangolini of
1865 with its tower, original
furniture and arms, that was
actually re-built over the foundations
of the historic Rocca,
erected in 1462 by Francesco
di Giorgio Martini on Federico
da Montefeltro’s commission.
Part of the defence walls of the
original Rocca are preserved
in the Castle, too.
SOMETHING MORE TO
DISCOVER
The village might be named
after the amount of wood,
gathered in this area and than
transferred to Rome; Right in
Tavoleto, wood logs were
worked out into beams and
boards (Tavola, hence Tavoleto).
Today, economy main activity
is footware and mattress manufacturing
industry.
TAVOLETO
WORTH TASTING
Amongst the typical products
we recommend “tortellini al
pasticcio”, roastbeef, tagliatelle,
lamb, and guinea-hen,
rubbit à la “cacciatora”
(Hunter’s style), stuffed turkey,
wild game, appetizers with natural
local products, “piada
sfogliata” (puff flatbread) with
ham. Top production of Casciotta
di Urbino DPO.
SOMETHING TO DO
It’s a suitable area for walking,
mountain-bike and horse
trekking tours.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The Val Ventena, a charming
valley, sited partly in the municipal
territory of Tavoleto
and partly in Auditore, is also
worth a visit: Enjoy its unspoiled
ecosystem with untouched
pristine flora and fauna.
