The territory has always been a
land of passage for Proto-Italian
people going from the Umbrian
valleys to the Adriatic
plains, as well as nomadic peoples,
Etruscans, Romans, Longobards,
Benedictine monks,
Franciscans and Pilgrims of
every period, going to Loreto
and Assisi. Already Umbrian
territory under the control of
the Church of Spoleto till 1587,
it was later affected by the historical
events of Camerino.
WORTH VISITING
In the town square you can find
the Romanesque parish Church
of St. Maria with a polygonal
apse and a bell tower of the 14 th
century: inside you can see a
Madonna with Child, a wooden
group of the end of 15 th century;
a painting of 1541 by Giovanni
Andrea De Magistris and
different frescoes, dated back
to the 14 th and 15 th centuries.
Nearby you can visit the
Church of St. Maria in
Caspriano di Casavecchia,
built in 1350, now surrounded
by woods, amid a very interesting
landscape. Worth visiting
are the ruins of the Castle of
Prefoglio and the picturesque
Hermitage of Santi, halfway on
the mountain, surrounded by a
thick forest; the annexed buildings
offers free overnight stay
opportunity. The Church has a
wonderful early Christian
crypt, partly dug into the rock.
The Picture Gallery, belonging
to the Church of St. Giovanni,
PIEVE TORINA
preserves some altarpieces,
coming from the destroyed
churches of Pomarolo and St.
Teodora, as well as frescoes, removed
from the ancient parish
Church of St. Maria Assunta.

DISCOVER
In the former Convent of St.
Agostino (dated back to the 17 th
century) you can find the
Museo della Nostra Terra (Our
land Museum), an ethnographic-farming
museum founded in
1976, where you can see different
representations of life and
work of the people of the upper
country side surrounding
Macerata, inclding faithful reproductions
of the rooms of
farmhouses and workshops.
The Mill on the river, a branch
of the museum, preserves its
original structure, including the
lake, the lock and the waterfalls,
that are still functioning;
its structure, complete in all its
parts, recreates the moments of
life and work of the miller.
WORTH TASTING
Local specialities are: cheese,
“ciauscolo”, honey, trout,
handmade pasta (tagliatelle,
cappelletti, vincisgrassi) and
fruits of the forest and undergrowth
(mushrooms, black
truffles, chestnuts, strawberries,
raspberries and blueberries).

a sports ground. In the River
Chienti you can practice sport
fishing and you can catch beautiful
specimens of trout.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Pieve Torina is located within
the Camerino Mountain Community
(Comunità Montana di
Camerino), amid pastureland,
meadows and woods. It belongs
to the Sibillini Mountains
National Park and to the Torricchio
Mountain Natural Reserve.
It is the starting point for
beautiful historical-artistic,
cultural and naturalistic excursions
on foot, horseback or by
mountain bike, across the wonderful
territory, characterized
not only by the beauty of the
landscape, but also by medieval
castles, Renaissance
buildings and ancient rural
churches.
