The territory has been populated
since ancient times, but
we have got certain mention
of a settlement only in the
Middle Ages. At the beginning
of the 13 th century Sefro
got the status of Municipality,
developing a close relationship
with the near Camerino;
however, it maintained a special
autonomy, until it passed
later on under the rule of the
Popedom.
WORTH VISITING
We can see numerous artistic
evidences of the past; first of
all the recently restored
medieval Castle of the Dukes
Da Varano. Worth visiting are
also the Church of St. Maria
Assunta, which preserves a
Crucifix and a statue of St.
Sebastiano of the 16 th century,
the Church of Madonna
dei Calcinai, the Church of
St. Albertino and the Church
of St. Pietro. In the hamlet
Abolla you can find the
Church of St. Tossano, containing
a beautiful Crucifixion,
painted in the 14 th
century and a very rare Via
Crucis in polychrome terracotta,
dating from the 15 th
century. Worth remembering
is also the rural Church of St.
Michele Arcangelo in the
hamlet Abolla, as well as the
Churches of St. Biagio and
St. Paolo in the hamlet Sorti.
Worth visiting is the Museum
of Agricultural Tools “F. Ferretti”.

Local specialities are: traditional
sausages, including
“ciauscolo”, the renowned
trout, wild game, cheese,
black truffles, mushrooms,
honey and handmade pasta.
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: a tennis court, a
sports ground, a five-a-side
football field and a skating
rink. Trout and crayfish sport
fishing opportunities along
the Scarsito stream (tributary
of Potenza) and in the small
pond at the fork to the hamlet
Agolla.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Sefro is a village of remarkable
landscape interest, with
lush vegetation and small
lakes, belonging to the Mountain
Community of the Upper
Potenza and Esino Valleys
(Comunità Montana Alte Valli
del Potenza e dell’Esino). In
its territory you can find the
Valle Scurosa Oasis, very important
naturalistic area, characterized
by the yellow blossoming
of laburnum bunches,
by the white flowers of manna
ash, by turkey oaks, sessile
oaks, century-old beech trees,
hazels and maples. It is the
starting point for numerous
excursions on foot or by
mountain bike along the paths
of the Oasis della Valle
Scurosa, of the tableland of
Montelago and of the mounts
