MOUNTAIN DEWS
The first settlement appeared
probably with Picene people;
in the Roman age it was a vicus
of the noble town of Urbisaglia.
The village was fortified in the
Middle Ages, when the Bishops
of Camerino built there a
feud, given to the Counts
Prontaguerra. After this rule, it
passed under the control of San
Ginesio, despite the opposition
of its inhabitants. Later the territory
was conquered by the
Popedom and Pope Leo X decided
to give the castle of Ripe
to San Ginesio. On commission
of the same Pope the so
called Leonina Tower was built
to defend the territory. The later
history of Ripe is part of the
history of san Ginesio.
WORTH VISITING
Worth seeing is the Tower
was formerly held by the
Benedictine, Dominican and
Art includes more than
three hundred paintings and
sculptures. Worth remembering
