The village has been a property
of the Nobili-Brunforte family
since the Middle Ages. After a
long period of assaults and battles,
the Castle was destroyed
by Gentile da Mogliano, and
built over new by the inhabitants
in 1371. Until the establishment
of the Kingdom of
Italy the history of Montappone
is part of the history of Fermo.
WORTH VISITING
The Oratory of SS. Sacramento
(14 th century), with a Romanesque
brick portal, contains
16 th century frescoes, one
of which is a Madonna with
Child and Saints Santi Giovanni
Battista and Giorgio, attributed
to Vincenzo Pagani. The
Church of St. Maria in Castello,
built in the 17 th century,
contains a valuable Pomarancio’s
Madonna with Child. The
parish Church of Santa Maria
and San Giorgio was erected
over the ruins of a previous Romanesque
building. It houses
an important reliquary of the
15 th century. Of special interest
is the Hat Museum.

Montappone is famous for hat
manufacturing, handicraft activity,
started in the 16 th century.
The modern industrial production
is now exported all
over the world.

like the famous ciauscolo;
hand made pasta recipes (tagliatelle
and vincisgrassi); cakes
like stuffed calcioni, Christmas
and Easter pastries (called pizza).

are available: a soccer field, a
tennis court, two Boules (Italian
Bocce) rinks and a five-aside
football ground.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The village of Montappone occupies
the top of a hill, offering
an amazing panoramic view,
sweeping away from the
Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic
Sea. It is possible to enjoy
naturalistic tours, like the
walking or mountain-bike itineraries
along the Ete Vivo and
Ete Morto streams.
