Muccia originated in the Neolithic
period, as evidenced by
the great number of archaeological
findings, now preserved
in the National Archaeological
Museum of the Marche in Ancona.
In the Middle Ages it belonged
to Camerino and since
the 15 th century it owned an important
fortified mill, from
which the local people earned
their livelihood.
WORTH VISITING
Worth visiting are the Church
of Madonna dei Da Varano of
the 16 th century with its special
octagonal shape, containing
valuable A. De Magistris’
works. The Sanctuary of
Blessed Rizzerio, largely rebuilt,
preserves the remains of
the confessor of St. Francesco
of Assisi: the Hermitage is destination
of pilgrimages and visits.
The Sanctuary of Madonna
di Col de’Venti contains a beautiful
15 th century painting representing
the Virgin with Child.
The Torre di Massa, in the
hamlet Massaprefoglio, was
built in the 13 th century by the
Dukes Da Varano, Lords of
Camerino. The Villa “La Maddalena”,
surrounded by a park,
was built in the 17 th century.
WORTH TASTING
Local specialities are: mushrooms,
black truffles, trout,
ciauscolo, honey, handmade
pasta (“tagliatelle” and “vincisgrassi”),
cakes (bread with
nuts, biscuits and Easter piz-

zas) the excellent Amaro Sibilla
(liquor made up of herbs and
roots, coming from the Sibillini
Mountains) and the famous
Mistrà Varnello (anise liquor).
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: a sports centre
with swimming pool, a tennis
court, a five-a-side football
ground and a multi-purpose
sport centre.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The territory Muccia is part of
the natural and wonderful area
of the Camerino Mountain
Community (Comunità Montana
di Camerino), area of naturalistic-environmentalinterest
with beautiful landscapes.
You can enjoy different excursions,
either on foot or by
mountain bike across paths and
woods.
