MOUNTAIN DEWS
In the Middle Ages Mercatino
Conca was owned by the
Malatesta family. The old Castle,
known since 1272 as Pian
di Castello, was destroyed in
1462 by Federico da Montefeltro,
who assaulted it with his
troops.
The Montefeltro family and
than the Della Rovere family
ruled over it during centuries,
but also afterwards the village
kept being strongly affected by
the vicissitudes of the Dukedom
of Urbino.
Thanks to its strategic location,
the village has been always
scene of trades and commercial
dealings, as the name itself
confirm.
WORTH VISITING
Mercatino Conca, located in
the Conca Mid-valley, at the
merging point with Rio Tassona,
is a strategic point in the
communication net of the
whole valley, as the impressive
bridge, built on six archways,
evidences. Town buildings
mostly stand close to each other
on the leftside of the wide
and pebbly river bank.
SOMETHING MORE TO
DISCOVER
The territory is a very suitable
area for wild boar hunting.
In the big Good Friday fair, the
tradition.
WORTH TASTING
Local specialities are fusilli
with ricotta-cheese, wild boar
a la Montefeltro, pigeons with
“montanara”, stuffed mushroom
caps, cheeses, salami
and ham variety and Belmoro
(typical cake).
WORTH DISCOVERING
Conca and the Foglia Valleys.
