In the past Ussita belonged to
Visso; it was the most important
one of the five “Guaite”.
Later it was under the jurisdiction
of the Signoria of the Da
Varano family from Camerino.
In 1380 Rodolfo De Varano
wanted to build the castle to defend
himself from the incursions
of the Municipalities, located
on the Adriatic site of the
Sibillini Mountains. In 1913
Ussita obtained its administrative
autonomy.
WORTH VISITING
The Church of St. Maria Assunta
(14 th century), in the hamlet
Pieve, has a stone facade with a
central rose window and an
ogival portal, supported by two
columns: inside you can find
some frescoes by Paolo da Visso
and a painting attributed to
Camillo and Fabio Angelucci.
The Church of St. Vincenzo
and Anastasio, built in 1093 in
the hamlet Casali, has a stone
facade and a beautiful arched
portal with denticulated arched
lintel; the interior is embellished
by two wooden altars of
the 17 th century. The Church of
St. Stefano, in the hamlet Sorbo,
contains frescos of the 14 th
and 15 th centuries, the Church
of St. Andrea can boast some
frescoes of the 15 th century.

Ussita is an interesting tourist
resort for summer and winter
holidays. Frontignano, 1350m

high, is an equipped ski resort.
WORTH TASTING
Local specialities are: traditional
pecorino cheese, honey,
mountain lamb and mutton,
black truffle, summer truffle,
mushrooms and cakes (Easter
pizzas).

The following sport facilities
are available: a soccer field, a
tennis court, an ice rink, a municipal
indoor swimming pool,
a solarium, a mini golf course,
a riding ground, skiing facilities
with 6 ski lifts and 4 chair
lifts.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Ussita is a characteristic village,
situated on a valley at the
foot of the Mount Bove and in
the middle of the Sibillini
Mountains National Park. The
geographical features of the
beautiful massif of the Mount
Bove offers climbing opportunities.
You can enjoy naturalistic
excursions on foot, horseback
or by mountain bike.
Don’t miss out a visit to the historic
Castle on the hill Fantellino.
