In the past Ussita belonged to<br />

Visso; it was the most important<br />

one of the five “Guaite”.<br />

Later it was under the jurisdiction<br />

of the Signoria of the Da<br />

Varano family from Camerino.<br />

In 1380 Rodolfo De Varano<br />

wanted to build the castle to defend<br />

himself from the incursions<br />

of the Municipalities, located<br />

on the Adriatic site of the<br />

Sibillini Mountains. In 1913<br />

Ussita obtained its administrative<br />

autonomy.<br />

WORTH VISITING<br />

The Church of St. Maria Assunta<br />

(14 th century), in the hamlet<br />

Pieve, has a stone facade with a<br />

central rose window and an<br />

ogival portal, supported by two<br />

columns: inside you can find<br />

some frescoes by Paolo da Visso<br />

and a painting attributed to<br />

Camillo and Fabio Angelucci.<br />

The Church of St. Vincenzo<br />

and Anastasio, built in 1093 in<br />

the hamlet Casali, has a stone<br />

facade and a beautiful arched<br />

portal with denticulated arched<br />

lintel; the interior is embellished<br />

by two wooden altars of<br />

the 17 th century. The Church of<br />

St. Stefano, in the hamlet Sorbo,<br />

contains frescos of the 14 th<br />

and 15 th centuries, the Church<br />

of St. Andrea can boast some<br />

frescoes of the 15 th century.<br />

Ussita is an interesting tourist<br />

resort for summer and winter<br />

holidays. Frontignano, 1350m<br />

high, is an equipped ski resort.<br />

Local specialities are: traditional<br />

pecorino cheese, honey,<br />

mountain lamb and mutton,<br />

black truffle, summer truffle,<br />

mushrooms and cakes (Easter<br />

pizzas).<br />

are available: a soccer field, a<br />

tennis court, an ice rink, a municipal<br />

indoor swimming pool,<br />

a solarium, a mini golf course,<br />

a riding ground, skiing facilities<br />

with 6 ski lifts and 4 chair<br />

Ussita is a characteristic village,<br />

situated on a valley at the<br />

foot of the Mount Bove and in<br />

the middle of the Sibillini<br />

Mountains National Park. The<br />

geographical features of the<br />

beautiful massif of the Mount<br />

Bove offers climbing opportunities.<br />

You can enjoy naturalistic<br />

excursions on foot, horseback<br />

or by mountain bike.<br />

Don’t miss out a visit to the historic<br />

Castle on the hill Fantellino.<br />
