The origin of the village dates
around the year 1000, when
Benedictine monks from Farfa
and Fonte Avellana moved
about in the surrounding country
side and erected new
churches and small monasteries.
Afterwards, it became one
of the even more than fifty Castles
depending on Fermo, retaining
some of its administrative
independence, though.
WORTH VISITING
In the historic centre you will
find remains of the Ring Walls
(15 th century), the Porta Marina
and the Porta da Sole
(Town Gates). Worth a visit are
the Town Hall (16 th century)
containing a Simone De Magistris’
painting representing a
Madonna with Child and
Saints of 1596 and a wooden
Crucifix, dating from the 16 th
century, as well as the Church
of St. Nicolò (built between the
15 th and the 18 th century), with
a beautiful wooden painted
ceiling of 1764 and a Rosary
Madonna of 1682, attributed to
Giuseppe Ghezzi. Inside the
walls is also the Church of St.
Giacomo and St. Quirico, containing
two wooden paintings
attributed to Pietro Alemanno,
a 15 th century polyptych representing
a Madonna with Child
and Saints and a polychrome
wooden sculpture representing
St. Quirico; of great interest is
also the Church of St. Lorenzo,
housing a Callido’s organ of
1784 and a 16 th century altar.
LAPEDONA
Outside the castle walls you
can find three beautiful old
churches: the Church of SS.
Quirico and Giuditta, the
Church of St. Pietro and the
Small Church of the Madonna.
WORTH TASTING
Amongst the specialities, we
recommend virgin olive oil,
salamis and sausages, handmade
pasta (tagliatelle), vin
cotto, cakes (pistringo, Easter
ring cake, pizza with figs) and
the delicious peaches of the
Aso Valley.
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: a tennis court, a
municipal gym, a soccer field
and a multi-purpose sports
ground in the hamlet Aso.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The Municipality of Lapedona
lies between the Aso Valley and
the municipal territory of Fermo,
about 5 km from the sea;
the village includes the public
garden “Parco delle Bore”.
Historical walking tours at the
discovery of the old narrow
streets and picturesque squares
of the village are recommended.
