Historians disagree about the
origin of the village: According
to some opinions Moresco was
founded in the 8 th century by a
Moorish colony, coming from
across the Adriatic Sea; other
people say that people from
Monterubbiano may have built
the Castle to defend themselves
from Barbarians; last but not
least, the most likely possibility
has it that local landlords
moved to the hilltop to protect
themselves from enemy attacks.
In the 13 th century the
village passed under the rule of
Fermo until the Unification of
Italy. In 1869 Moresco was incorporated
with the other
neighbouring municipalities.
Finally, it got its administrative
independence in 1910.
WORTH VISITING
In the walled around historic
centre you can see the 12 th century
heptagonal Tower, the 14 th
century Clock Tower, Piazza
del Castello with Gothic Portico,
the Town Hall, housing numerous
works of art, including
a piece showing a Madonna in
glory with Child, Angels and
Saints by Vincenzo Pagani.
Worth visiting is also the parish
Church of SS. Lorenzo and
Nicolò and the Church of St.
Antonio Abate. Outside the ring
walls are the Church of Madonna
della Salute, the Church
of St. Sofia, the Church of St.
Lorenzo and the Church of St.
Maria dell’Olmo, containing a
Vincenzo Pagani’s Crucifixion.

WORTH TASTING
Food and wine local specialities
are virgin olive oil, traditional
sausages and salamis like
the famous “ciauscolo”,
pecorino-cheese, hand made
pasta recipes (tagliatelle and
vincisgrassi), cakes (pizza with
figs pastry), delicious peaches
from the Aso Valley. Don’t
miss tasting fried cream, perfectly
matching with Ascoli’s
stuffed olives.
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: a tennis court, a
five-a-side football ground and
a volleyball ground. Sport fishing
opportunity at the Santarelli
lakes.
WORTH DISCOVERING
Moresco is sited on a hill overlooking
the Aso Valley, about
12 km from the sea and not far
away from the Sibillini Mountains.
Just downhill the historic
centre is a beautiful public garden.
It’s a suitable area for historical
and naturalistic tours along the
pedestrian route leading from
the historic centre to the municipal
boundary, along which it is
possible to see a great number
of small rural Churches and
Pinturette (devotion shrines),
typical of the Aso Valley.
