The origins of its name are uncertain:
the most likely hypothesis
is that the name refers to
the geographic conditions, as
the surrounding hills have the
shape of the palm of a hand
(Palmi Manus). We don’t know
anything precise about its origins,
because the municipal
archive was destroyed in 1799
because of a fire. However, the
different architectural evidences,
typical of the Benedictine
Order, suggests that the village
was likely founded by
these monks.
WORTH VISITING
For the charming streets of the
centre you can still feel the
past: several arches, portals and
stone architraves are still to see.
Interesting is the structure of
the parish Church of St. Maria
delle Grazie; built over an existing
tower. It contains many
frescoes and an altar dedicated
to St. Michele Arcangelo.

The main local products are:
mushrooms and valuable truffles.
Excellent grilled meat,
tasty sausages and pecorino
cheese

The following sport facilities
are available: a multipurpose
sports ground and indoor
boules (Bocce) rinks.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The landscape is of a unique
PALMIANO
and intense beauty: wood overlooking
the cultivated fields
and wonderful natural chromatic
effects, especially in Autumn.
The village rises on a hill
overlooking a deep valley between
the valleys of Fluvione
and Chiaro, in a stunningly
beautiful natural environment,
suitable for walking and mountain
biking.
Worth mentioning is the ancient
fortress of Castel San
Pietro, once called Belvedere
Castle, belonging to the system
of Ascoli. It still preserves parts
of the ancient ring walls. The
parish church contains interesting
figured capitals; nearby is
the Church of the Madonna di
Valle Fornaci (16 th century).
Worth visiting in Pedara is the
squared Tower, that retains
traits of the influence of the
Benedictine culture. An apsidiole,
immersed in the vegetation
of the Mount Vettore, is what
remains of an ancient church,
where the Brotherhood of the
Holy Sacrament was founded
in 1632.
