MOUNTAIN DEWS
In 1300 Monte Vidon Corrado
submitted to Fermo and the
Popedom, to protect itself
against plunders carried out by
people from the surrounding
villages or by mercenary
troops. In spite of that, the village
was attacked and plundered
by the Count of Carrara;
afterwards it was occupied by
Carlo Malatesta in 1413 and
Francesco Sforza in 1433. The
village was involved in the historical
vicissitudes of Fermo,
and then of the near Montegiorgio.
WORTH VISITING
In the historic centre you can
see beautiful houses with terracotta
decorations (15 th century),
elegant aristocratic
palaces, remains of the ring
walls with defence keeps (14 th -
15 th century) and the parish
Church of St. Vito Martyr, with
the 18 th century Neoclassical
façade and attached convent.
Outside the historic centre it is
possible to visit the Church of
Madonna del Carmine and the
rural Church of St. Giuseppe.
SOMETHING MORE TO
DISCOVER
The village is the birth place of
Osvaldo Licini, who is considered
one of the most important
exponent of European Abstractivism.
After living in
France for a while, the artist
decided to come back to Monte
Vidon Corrado, became town
mayor and created most of his
masterpieces, like Amalassuntas
and Rebel Angels;
The municipal administration
laid out a study centre, dedicated
to Osvaldo Licini, that hosts
displays and exhibitions systematically.
Manufacturing of straw, used
to produce hats, has been traditionally
practised in Monte Vidon
Corrado since the 18 th century;
the modern industrial
production, including hat and
accessories (buckles, buttons,
an so on), plays an important
role in the international fashion
market.
WORTH TASTING
Amongst specialities we recommend:
traditional sausages
and salamis, vincotto (literally
cooked wine), hand made pasta
(tagliatelle) and cakes (calcioni
with broad beans).
SOMETHING TO DO
The following sport facilities
are available: a soccer field and
an indoor multi-purpose sports
centre.
WORTH DISCOVERING
The village is sited on a hilltop
between the lower Tenna Valley
and the upper Ete Morto
Valley, about 30 km away from
the sea. Just outside the historic
centre are two municipal public
garden areas. We recommend a
historical and artistic tour
across the narrow streets of the
old borgo, to discover its
charming architecture.
