1.2.2.3 La <strong>citation</strong>-symbole La <strong>citation</strong>-symbole (Il - 12) témoigne, quant à elle, d'un rapport d'image à image. « La <strong>citation</strong>-symbole est une actualisation [...] du co<strong>de</strong> [...] sans transformation. Elle est toute entière perpétuation du système 88 ». La <strong>citation</strong>-symbole est <strong>la</strong> contiguïté d'une idée, d'une loi: « par exemple, <strong>la</strong> signification <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> perspective comme dispositif graphique 89 ». Dans « L'objectif déconcertëO », Pascal Bonitzer développe précisément c<strong>et</strong>te idée <strong>de</strong> <strong>citation</strong> symbolique comme prolongement d'un principe expressif formel. <strong>Le</strong> <strong>cinéma</strong> comme héritier <strong>de</strong> l'évolution <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> perspective du Quattrocento <strong>la</strong>isse un double héritage, un héritage idéologique qui entraîne un débat sur l'impression <strong>de</strong> réalité <strong>et</strong> l'héritage esthétique (préoccupation symbolique <strong>et</strong> expressive). Dans le <strong>de</strong>uxième chapitre <strong>de</strong> ce mémoire, nous verrons spécifiquement comment ce type <strong>de</strong> <strong>citation</strong> s'applique aux films avec Full M<strong>et</strong>al Jack<strong>et</strong> <strong>de</strong> Stanley Kubrick comme principal modèle. Somme toute, il reste maintenant à savoir <strong>la</strong>quelle <strong>de</strong> ces <strong>citation</strong>s définies par René Payant est <strong>la</strong> plus dominante quand on veut analyser une image citante. Car bien que <strong>les</strong> différentes <strong>citation</strong>s puissent être interreliées dans une même œuvre-cible, il <strong>de</strong>meure important d'établir une juste hiérarchisation <strong>de</strong>s <strong>citation</strong>s. Pour se faire, nous abordons dans le sens <strong>de</strong> René Payant à l'eff<strong>et</strong> que produire une typologie <strong>de</strong>s <strong>citation</strong>s visuel<strong>les</strong> perm<strong>et</strong> <strong>de</strong> comprendre <strong>la</strong> fonction <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> <strong>citation</strong> qui tourne essentiellement autour d'un proj<strong>et</strong> <strong>de</strong> remise en question du <strong>la</strong>ngage visuel par l'intertextualité. 1.2.3 <strong>Le</strong>s fonctions <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> <strong>citation</strong> canonique <strong>Le</strong>s fonctions attribuées à <strong>la</strong> <strong>citation</strong> ont tout d'abord été distinguées par Stefan Morawsky dans The Basic Fonctions ofQuotation/'. Morawsky différencie quatre fonctions fondamenta<strong>les</strong>: autorité, érudition, stimu<strong>la</strong>tion-amplification <strong>et</strong> ornement.
