Martín Alvarado sieht Globalisierung als das Gegenteil von
Spiritualität, eine Negation des Menschseins und als den Tod der
Kultur.
„You can take it to mean the whole process of contemporary modern
globalisation, you could take it to mean the contact with other
forms of spirituality or with other influences or with other
philosophy that’s been going on for 500 years. The view of
globalisation with New Liberalism in the last few years that’s a
specific impact, because there are more opportunities for contact
between individual Mayanpriest and the outside world. Mayan
Spirituality has been preserved by being cut off by being hidden
within the communities. That’s no longer the case. Globalisation
has to represent a dread to those who seen Mayan spirituality is
having survived in one form of purity. That’s no longer possible, the
outside influences can mean others part in Guatemala, can mean
other parts of the world who are interested in Mayan Spirituality. It
can also mean the other way around Mayan priest or priestess are
reaching out to other forms of philosophy to other forms of
spirituality in different contexts. There are dangerous I see, on of
the reason is the business that we see at the internet for instance.
People are selling divinations, amulets, protection and that becomes
a business. And that’s obviously not what is about. It’s obviously a
risk, there are some people who taken some training here in
Guatemala and are using that for commercial reasons outside
Guatemala, in the United states, through the internet or where ever
else, and that’s obviously a prostitution of Mayan spirituality.“ 111
