every day they should respected because they are still here. 28
...There are alive, there is a prayer which says they are in the air,
they are in the wind. Speaking scientifically we can say there are
the molecules in the air and everything that ever existed is a
molecule in the air, that’s scientifically true. Every time I breath in a
molecule that the last Quiche Leader Tecun Uman breathed in.
They are around us, they are physically present in our bodies. I am
physically the result of the union of my parents and so on through
the generations. When a body is returned to the earth, it composes
and the minerals nourishing the earth. Mother earth is what feeds
us during our physically life. Every time I eat anything that is grown
on the face of the earth I am eaten part of the same physical
substance that was one the body of an ancestor. So there are many
different levels on which they remain in life. It’s also true in nonphysical
things, in terms of knowledge, teaching, in terms of
wisdom that’s the works who lived before us. When we grow up in
any family and we learn about the world, we are learning because of
the body of knowledge left behind by those who have died. When
each generation dies they don’t take all their knowledge with them,
their leave it behind. That’s what helps us to understand the world.
So intellectuality the ancestor, their knowledge, their discoveries,
their interpretations are still with us today. And when they are alive
it’s very reasonable to address them, address them in prayers,
address them in ceremonies, we make offerings to them, we make
offerings in ceremonies to them, but we also make offerings to them
in everything we do. We very often make bad offerings through our
ingratitude those who for instance who’s being ungrateful to the
struggle, all the sweat all the suffer during their life-times. We
inherited, we might die soon, all of us, life is an extremely short
period. We are not the owner, we borrow everything we have. We
will have any right to demand, remembering and the good
treatment for everything that we left behind.” 29
