the tensile strength of steel could be increased by 7 times if the steel had 30% by
weight of oriented carbon nanotubes in it. While all of these results are promising,
there is much work to be done in this area, particularly in developing methods to
incorporate the tubes into plastics and metals. This particular application, like some
of the applications discussed earlier, will, of course, require inexpensive bulk
fabrication of nanotubes.
