Introduction<br />

In an emergency, people depend on information for physical and emotional<br />

comfort. To be effective, emergency communications must be timely, accurate,<br />

and clearly stated.<br />

This unit discusses differences between day-to-day and emergency<br />

communications and the types of communications most commonly used in<br />

emergencies.<br />

After completing this unit, you should be able to:<br />

Describe how day-to-day communication differs from emergency<br />

communication.<br />

Select the most appropriate form of communication for a given situation.<br />

Identify appropriate and inappropriate uses of e-mail, the Internet, and other<br />
