Assessment of effects on the environment (AEE)
Section 88 of the Resource Management Act 1991 requires all applications for resource
consents to include an assessment of the actual or potential effects that the proposed
activity may have on the environment and the ways in which any adverse effects can be
mitigated. The Fourth Schedule of the Act lists the matters that should be included in such
assessments and a summary is printed on the back of the application form.
You must fully complete this section or your application cannot be processed.
The information you supply should be detailed according to the scale, scope and effects of
the proposed activity.
Applicants for small scale proposals having minor effects should be able to supply sufficient
information by filling in the spaces provided. More complex proposals with more significant
effects will need to address the following matters (in accordance with the Fourth Schedule)
as a separate document.
If the AEE is presented in the format of a report, it must address the following matters, if
appropriate.

If the diversion relates to a new activity a land use consent may also be required.
If the diversion is in the coastal marine area a coastal permit to divert water is required. You can
make the application on this form. A coastal permit to erect any structures and occupy the coastal
marine area is required for a new diversion.
