the public road it will be removed by the Contractor using appropriate methods (e.g. sweeper/sucker truck). 4.2.7 Dust suppression A dust management plan will be developed by the Contractor prior to the start of works and shall include details of the volume of water that is likely to be required, number of watering trucks required and the location and number of wheel washing facilities. During the dryer summer months dust control measures will be of high priority to avoid nuisance affects. In accordance with EBOP guidelines water should be applied at a rate of at lest 5mm/day (50m 3 /hectare) during dry periods. It is highly likely that water for use as a dust suppressant will be sourced from a municipal reticulated water supply rather than from on-site storage. In this instance written confirmation will be required from the territorial authority for the use of municipal water. 4.3 Erosion and Sediment Control implementation Sequence The anticipated implementation sequence for the erosion and sediment controls is as follows: Mangatawa Drain • Construction of perimeter controls such as clean water diversions for works; • Installation of decanting earth bund; • Installation of Kairua Road controls; • Drain and storage area earthworks; • Stabilise completed areas as soon as practicable • Remove decanting earth bund. Rail Bridge Embankment Stability • Construction of perimeter controls such as dams and clean water diversions for works; • Embankment excavation; • Gabion basket and Reno Mattress installation; • Rail Bridge works; • Fill corners; • Progressively stabilise completed areas as soon as practicable. Culvert Extension • Construction of clean water diversions; • Pipe the existing drains; • Install clean water diversions around outlet construction; • Progressively stabilise completed areas as soon as practicable. Lower Mangatawa Drain • Construction of perimeter controls such as silt fences and runoff diversions for Stage 1 works; • Installation of Stage 1 decanting earth bund; • Stage 1 earthworks; • Stabilise completed Stage 1 areas as soon as practicable; • Construction of perimeter controls such as silt fences and runoff diversions for Stage 2 works; Beca // 1 April 2009 // Page 10 3932036 // NZ1-1453076-10 0.10
• Installation of Stage 2 decanting earth bund; • Stage 2 earthworks; • Progressively stabilise completed areas as soon as practicable. Stormwater Wetland • Construction of perimeter controls such as silt fences; • Stage 1 earthworks; • Stage 2 earthworks; • Construction of dam weir; • Diversion of clean water entering wetland through the new Stage 2 channels; • Stage 3 earthworks; • Construction of outlet; • Progressively stabilise completed areas as soon as practicable; • Construction of perimeter controls such as silt fences and bund in Phase 2; • Phase 2 earthworks; • Open Phase 2 to Phase 1. 5 Monitoring and Maintenance Erosion and sediment control measures will be installed, monitored and maintained throughout the works until the site is stabilised. The table below outlines inspection and maintenance requirements for erosion and sediment controls that are to be implemented in this ESCP. Control Type Inspection and Maintenance Requirements Frequency Silt fence • Check that silt fences are toed in correctly. • Check for tears and other damage. • Any areas of collapse, decomposition or ineffectiveness are to be replaced immediately. • Remove silt build ups when bulges develop or when deposition reaches 50% of the silt fence height.
