by <strong>the</strong> mine foreman or his assistants at least once a week, and all<br />

danger found existing <strong>the</strong>rein shall be immediately removed. A report<br />

<strong>of</strong> said examination shall be recorded in a book kept at <strong>the</strong> colliery<br />

for that purpose and signed by <strong>the</strong> person making <strong>the</strong> same.<br />

liule 5.<br />

In mines generating explosive gases, <strong>the</strong> mine foreman or<br />

liis assistant shall make a careful examination every morning <strong>of</strong> all<br />

working places and traveling roads and all o<strong>the</strong>r places which might<br />

endanger <strong>the</strong> safety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> workmen, before <strong>the</strong> workmen shall enter<br />

<strong>the</strong> mine, and such examination shall be made with a safety lamp<br />

within three (3) hours at most, before time for commencing work,<br />

and a workman shall not enter <strong>the</strong> mine or his working place until<br />

<strong>the</strong> said mine or part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> and working place are reported to be<br />

safe. Every report shall be recorded without delay in a book which<br />

shall be kept at <strong>the</strong> colliery for <strong>the</strong> purpose and shall be signed by<br />

<strong>the</strong> person making <strong>the</strong> examination.<br />

Kule 6. The person who makes said examination shall establish<br />

pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same by marking plainly <strong>the</strong> date <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> at <strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong><br />

each working place and all o<strong>the</strong>r places examined.<br />

Kule 7. A station or stations shall be established at <strong>the</strong> entrance<br />

to each mine or different parts <strong>of</strong> each mine, as <strong>the</strong> case may require,<br />

and a workman shall not pass beyond any such station until <strong>the</strong><br />

mine or part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mine beyond <strong>the</strong> same has been inspected and<br />

i'eported to be safe. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fire boss to remain<br />

at <strong>the</strong> danger station until relieved by some person authorized by<br />

himself or <strong>the</strong> mine foreman, who shall stand guard until said mine<br />

or part <strong>of</strong> mine shall be reported safe, and he shall not let any person<br />

pass without permission from <strong>the</strong> fire boss.<br />

Rule 8. If at any time it is found by <strong>the</strong> person for <strong>the</strong> time being<br />

in charge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mine or any part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, that by reason <strong>of</strong> noxious<br />

gases prevailing in such mine or such part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, or <strong>of</strong> any cause<br />

whatever <strong>the</strong> mine or <strong>the</strong> said part is dangerous, every precaution<br />

shall be used to ensure <strong>the</strong> safety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> workmen; and every workman,<br />

except such persons as may be required to remove <strong>the</strong> danger,<br />

shall be withdrawn from <strong>the</strong> mine, or such part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> as is so found<br />

dangerous, uniil tlie said mine or said part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> is examined by<br />

a competent person and reported by him to be safe.<br />

Kule 0. In every working approaching any place where <strong>the</strong>re is<br />

likely to be accumuhition <strong>of</strong> explosive gases, or in any working in<br />

which danger is imminent from explosive gases, no light or fire o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

than a locked safety lamp shall be allowed or used. Whenever safety<br />

lamps are required in any mine <strong>the</strong>y shall be <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong> tin?<br />

owner <strong>of</strong> said mine, and a competent person, who shall be appointed<br />

for <strong>the</strong> purpose, shall examine every safety lamp immediately before<br />

it is taken into <strong>the</strong> workings for use, and ascertain it to be clean, safe<br />

and securely locked, and safety lamps shall not be used until <strong>the</strong>y
