Oak Hill<br />

Colliery.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> shaft or fifth lift, <strong>the</strong> south tunnel was<br />

driven 515 feet, cuttinj*- <strong>the</strong> Black Heath vein, in good condition, nine<br />

feet nine inches thick on south dip <strong>of</strong> forty-three degrees. It was<br />

<strong>the</strong>n continued, and has cut <strong>the</strong> White Ash vein, nine feet three<br />

inches thick in good condition. The distance from <strong>the</strong> top slate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Black Heath to <strong>the</strong> bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> White Ash is 170 feet. An airhole<br />

was driven in <strong>the</strong> Black Heath vein, 394 feet long, from <strong>the</strong> fifth<br />

to <strong>the</strong> fourth lift. The north tunnel has been continued, and has<br />

cut <strong>the</strong> Skidmore ^'ein, in good condition, five feet four inches tnick.<br />

The tunnel from <strong>the</strong> Black Heath to <strong>the</strong> Skidmore vein is 120 feet<br />

long.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> third or old lift,<br />

a tunnel was driven from <strong>the</strong> Big Tracy<br />

vein, 267 feet long, cutting <strong>the</strong> Little Diamond vein, in poor condition.<br />

The tunnel was continued 150 feet, cutting <strong>the</strong> Little Diamond<br />

vein again, on <strong>the</strong> north dip, in poor condition.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> lower or fourth lift tunnel, <strong>the</strong> Big Tracy vein was cut 110<br />

feet from <strong>the</strong> Little Tracy, and <strong>the</strong> tunnel continued 84 feet under <strong>the</strong><br />

Big Tracj' and <strong>the</strong>n stopped.<br />

A trial slojie was sunk 175 feet west <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lewis vein slope to a<br />

depth <strong>of</strong> 935 feet; vein in fair condition, dip about thirty degrees<br />

south.<br />

St.<br />

Clair Colliery.<br />

A new single track slope is being sunk from <strong>the</strong> surface in <strong>the</strong> Buck<br />

Mountain vein, wliich commences near <strong>the</strong> mouth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> old Breen<br />

drift. The vein has a dip <strong>of</strong> about forty-two degrees south. The slope is<br />

being sunk eastward across <strong>the</strong> pitch on a grade <strong>of</strong> twenty-five degrees.<br />

It is now about 200 feet below <strong>the</strong> water level gangway, which<br />

is about 200 feet below <strong>the</strong> surface.<br />

East Ridge Colliery.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> slope, or third level, a tunnel has been driven south from <strong>the</strong><br />

Skidmore, 108 feet long, cutting <strong>the</strong> Buck Mountain vein. The tunnel<br />

has since been continued to <strong>the</strong> leader or bottom timber <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Buck<br />
