Gilberton water shaft belonging to <strong>the</strong> Philadelphia and Reading<br />

Coal and Iron Company, is sunk to a depth <strong>of</strong> 1,075 feet to a vein<br />

four feet thick underlying <strong>the</strong> Buck Mountain vein 30 feet.<br />

The Gilberton Colliery connects with this water shaft as also will<br />

<strong>the</strong> Draper Colliery in <strong>the</strong> near future. A tunnel 707 feet long has<br />

been driven north across <strong>the</strong> basin from <strong>the</strong> fifth lift <strong>of</strong> Draper<br />

Colliery. The distance west from <strong>the</strong> shaft to this tunnel is 1,500<br />

feet. The present distance driven west from <strong>the</strong> shaft in <strong>the</strong> four<br />

foot vein is 350 feet, and <strong>the</strong> distance driven east in same vein from<br />

l>asin tunnel is 200 feet, leaving 950 feet yet to be driven to connect<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Draper Colliery. After all <strong>the</strong> connections have been made
