<strong>the</strong>m as <strong>the</strong>y ran, burying Hanaich under it; <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r man, who was<br />

a step or two ahead, having been cut and bruised and he narrowly escaped<br />

death,<br />

Georg-e Washington, aged 28, and Harry Crawford, aged 37, both<br />

colored men, were killed in Leith mine, operated by H. C. Frick Coke<br />

Company, by a fall <strong>of</strong> ro<strong>of</strong>.<br />

Thos. B. Richardson was killed by a fall <strong>of</strong> ro<strong>of</strong> while cutting away<br />

a stump, after he had drawn out his posts, in <strong>the</strong> Leisenring No. 3<br />

mine, belonging to <strong>the</strong> H. C. Frick Coke Company.<br />

John Burlock, age unknown, was instantly killed by a fall <strong>of</strong> slate<br />

in his working place in Leisenring No. 2 mine.<br />

Pleasant Lynch, age not given, was instantly killed by a fall <strong>of</strong><br />

slate in <strong>the</strong> Leisenring No. 2 mine, owned by <strong>the</strong> H. C. Frick Coke<br />

Company.<br />

Edward Tensky, aged 28, while working in Trotter mine, operated<br />

by H. C. Frick Coke Company, had his wrist broken, <strong>the</strong> muscles <strong>of</strong><br />

his back strained and was injured internally by a fall <strong>of</strong> slate.<br />

When<br />

taken home <strong>the</strong> doctor did not think anything serious would result,<br />

but he died on <strong>the</strong> 26th <strong>of</strong> November.<br />

Henry Stophaka, age 28 years, was killed in Elenora mine, operated<br />

by <strong>the</strong> J. D. Boyd Coal Co. Stophaka was undermining a breast <strong>of</strong><br />

coal, which had been shattered by a previous blast <strong>of</strong> gunpowder.<br />

He had put <strong>the</strong> sprag in under it while he was undermining, but<br />

while at work he struck <strong>the</strong> sprag with his pick and knocked it out,<br />

when <strong>the</strong> coal fell upon him, crushing and bruising him to such an<br />

extent that he lived onlj' a few hours.<br />

David J. Crosby was killed under a trip <strong>of</strong> mine cars on <strong>the</strong> slope<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stewart Iron Company's mine.<br />

Mike Ochlane, aged 44, was killed by a fall<br />

<strong>of</strong> ro<strong>of</strong> coal and slate<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Mahoning-Atlas mine, belonging to <strong>the</strong> Cambria Iron Company.<br />

John Stickle, aged 49 years, was killed by a fall <strong>of</strong> ro<strong>of</strong> coal and<br />

slate in <strong>the</strong> Crossland mine, owned and operated by <strong>the</strong> Atlas Coke<br />

Company
