Mitchell Drift and Giacetoii No. 1 Drift.—Idle <strong>the</strong> entire year.<br />

Graceton No. 2 Drift.—This mine has been kept in ^^ood condition.<br />

The average qnantitv <strong>of</strong> air j)assin«; at <strong>the</strong> inlet was 1!),()(>() cubic feet per minute, which was being w'ell distributed around<br />

<strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> workings. (Quantities ranging from 0,000 to 9,000<br />

cubic feet were measured near <strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong> each butt entry. The drainage<br />

is very good. Mine foreman, David Clark.<br />

Central Slope.—The general condition <strong>of</strong> this mine, when last examined,<br />

was satisfactory. The (piantity <strong>of</strong> air passing at <strong>the</strong> inlet<br />

was 53,120 cubic feet per minute, which was being well distril)uted<br />

around <strong>the</strong> workings. There is trouble with local "dips" to some extent,<br />

which requires an extra amount <strong>of</strong> labor on <strong>the</strong> drainage, but,<br />

notwithstanding this natural ditticulty, it is in very fair condition.<br />

Southwest No. 1 "A" Shaft.—General condition <strong>of</strong> mine is good.<br />

Good sweejting air currents are conducted through all i»arts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

workings. Tlie drainage is also in satisfactory condition. Air in<br />

circulation, ^^•llen last mcasnred, 112,000 cubic feet per minute.<br />

The inside impi-ovements are <strong>the</strong> extension <strong>of</strong> a branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tail<br />

ro])e system (tt haulage, a distance <strong>of</strong> 2,000 feet, to what is termed<br />

No. 3 lay oil", with an avei-age gradc^ <strong>of</strong> two feet to <strong>the</strong> hundred,<br />

<strong>the</strong>reby i)lacing <strong>the</strong> lay otf light among <strong>the</strong> miners. From <strong>the</strong> same<br />

main haulage <strong>the</strong> grading is about comph'ted for anolher branch to<br />

be about 1,300 feet long.<br />

A new Yough i)nni]» has been added, siz(? 14x20x4S inches, to <strong>the</strong><br />

new i»iimi»ing station which was erected in 1890. A new S-inch wooden<br />

dischaige line .'1. 000 fi'ct long has been lailace for that pnrj)ose.
