Stephen Guidash, a miner, was killed at Kaska William colliery,<br />

February 10. While crossing <strong>the</strong> breast, a piece <strong>of</strong> coal fell from <strong>the</strong><br />

top, which struck him, causing his death in a few minutes.<br />

On February 16, William Daer and Joseph Stauesefski, both<br />

miners, w^ere severeh' burned by an explosion <strong>of</strong> powder at Glendower<br />

colliery. They were working toge<strong>the</strong>r as partners in a breast, and<br />

were making a cartridge, when a spark from Stauesefski's naked<br />

lamp, which was on his head, ignited <strong>the</strong> powder which was in <strong>the</strong> keg.<br />

Both died a few days afterward.<br />

On February 17, John Mackie, a miner, was killed at <strong>the</strong> Pine<br />

Forrest colliery by a piece <strong>of</strong> coal falling upon him.<br />

On March 2, John McDonald, an outside laborer, was killed at <strong>the</strong><br />

Kalmia washery. He was engaged shovelling dirt into a conveyor<br />

line, which is 450 feet long, being near <strong>the</strong> far end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line. By<br />

some means he got into <strong>the</strong> trough or on chains and was carried over<br />

<strong>the</strong> end wheel and scraped through <strong>the</strong> trough to <strong>the</strong> washery, where<br />

his dead body was found as it dropped from <strong>the</strong> scraper line.<br />

On March 3, Thomas Barry, a pump man, and Fred. Krise, a young<br />

man who had gone down with Barry to see <strong>the</strong> place, were killed by<br />

an explosion <strong>of</strong> gas at <strong>the</strong> Middle Creek colliery.<br />

On March 9, Richard Neal, a miner, was killed at Lincoln colliery<br />

b}^ a fall <strong>of</strong> rock.<br />

On March 16, Andrew Mishel, an outside laborer, was killed at<br />

Silver Creek Shaft colliery by having been crushed between cars.<br />

On March 20, Ellsworth Batdorf, a miner, was killed at Lytic colliery.<br />

A large piece <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> bottom bench slid out from face and<br />

crushed him against <strong>the</strong> loose stull", killing him instantly.<br />

On March 22, Thomas and Joseph Garland, bro<strong>the</strong>rs, were burned<br />

by an explosion <strong>of</strong> gas at <strong>the</strong> Lehigh Coal and Navigation No. 11 colliery.<br />

They had fired a shot about noon \inu\ and, after eating <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

dinner, returned to <strong>the</strong> face with naked lamps, when <strong>the</strong> gas which<br />

had accniaulatcd after <strong>the</strong> shot had been fired was ignited. Thomas<br />

was burned and smcrely injured by falling down <strong>the</strong> niaiiway, and<br />

died from his injuries on <strong>the</strong> 23d. Joseph was burned on <strong>the</strong> hands<br />

and face, but recovered.<br />

On March 2."), John Sliearstone was killed in <strong>the</strong> shaft <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Oak<br />

Hill colliery by having been cauglil be( ween a cage and buntous.<br />
