In many of these cases, theSensoreX electrodes can be connected directly to the unit.When the original equipment preamp cannot be accessed, aSensoreX preamp will be needed. This is the case when thepreamp is built into the “disposable” electrode. The new preampis a one-time purchase, and will permit you to use the lower costprobes for all future replacements, saving money. The real need for ATC dependsupon the temperature variation, the pH value being measured,and the desired measurement accuracy. Most customers willNOT require ATC to obtain accurate results. When needed,SensoreX will build automatic temperature compensators(ATC) into the electrode holders. For example, a waste waterapplication with pH varying between 5 and 9 and temperaturevarying between 5° C and 45° C will have a maximum errorof only 0.12 pH. If the needed accuracy is 0.5 pH, then ATCis not needed. If on the other hand, a process liquid pH variesbetween 3 to 11 and the temperature varies between 25° C to75° C, the error is 0.6 pH , and ATC is probably needed.When ATC is not needed, the meter should be placed into themanual temperature compensation position. If the meter doesnot have this switch, a simple fixed resistor equal in value to theresistance of the meter’s ATC should be installed across thetemperature compensators terminals.When ATC is required, the necessary temperature element willbe built into the electrode holder.
