Warning devices are mandatory if a heated tankis to be left unattended for any period of time.• Heater may not be used interchangeably with all chemicalsolutions. Obtain the recommendation of the chemical supplierfor the heater best suited to the chemistry. Some chemicalsare identified by trade names to protect proprietary formulas.Some chemicals in the formula may affect the heater sheathmaterial resulting in chemical attack with possible electricalhazards or immediate failure. Some chemicals may requirederated (lower watt density) heaters.• New heater installations and startups should be performedonly by a licensed electrician.• High humidity is common in metal finishing/platingenvironments. Precautions must be taken to protect personnelfrom stray electrical currents. Use rubber gloves, boots, andinsulated work platforms.• Use ground fault circuits, overheat protection, low level controlsand stray current warning devices.• An older heater may become hazardous due to chemicalcorrosion that may eventually cause pinholes. Chemicalbuildup on heaters will tend to keep heat from dissipatingproperly into the solution which will result in heater burnoutor a reduced life span. A regular maintenance program ofcleaning and inspection will prevent chemical buildup orchemical corrosion of the heater.NOTE: All heaters must be operated in conjunctionwith appropriate temperature and level controls.Example:4000 watts/240 volts = 16.67 AmpsFor three phase balanced power supplies (Delta or Wye connections)to heaters using a three-pole contactor.AMP RATING = Total capacity (watts)PER POLE* line voltage x 1.73Example: 4000/240 x 1.73 = 9.63 AmpsContactor sizing: *Amp rating per pole X 1.25= contactor ratingPlease insure applicability of heater before installationsince we cannot guarantee heaters against prematurefailure due to corrosion or chemical destruction caused byunusual conditions over which we have no control such as:• Excessively high solution • The presence of dissolvedtemperatures.gases.• The concentration of the • Excessive sludge build-up.solution.• The presence of inhibitors.• Stagnant or turbulent flow ofthe solution.• The presence of other • Aeration.acids causing a secondary • Presence of oxygen orreaction.an oxidizing agent in the• Flux floating on the solution.surface.• Erosion.1-800-848-1141www.rhfs.com569
