13. FIRE PROTECTION FACILITIES13.1 GENERALThe Contractor shall design, manufacture, deliver to the Site, install, test andcommission the fire fighting and fire detection equipment to protect the gasturbine generating unit and all associated equipment. In particular, the followingshall be included: C0 2 Gas fire protection system for the gas turbine packaged unit. Water hydrant system including motor & diesel engine driven pumps,jockey pumps etc.Portable fire fighting equipment13.2 DESIGN REQUREMENTSThe general design of the fire protection facilities shall take into account that thebasic operating policy for the power station will have the minimum of personnelsupervision for the gas turbine.Where automatic systems are provided, alternative manual initiation facilities shallalso be provided.All fire protection installations shall comply with the requirements of the codes ofpractice of the National Fire Protection Association, Boston, Massachusetts,U.S.A., as appropriate for the respective systems, to the approval of the Board.The codes and practice of the Japanese Fire Protection may also be considered.13.3 CO 2 GAS FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMAn automatic Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) gas fire protection system shall be provided inall machinery enclosures of gas turbine generating units except in the unit localcontrol package. The fire protection system shall comply with the requirements ofNational Fire Code No. 12A published by the National Fire Protection Association,Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. or equivalent.The equipment shall consist essentially of fire detectors distributed strategicallywithin the enclosures which, on sensing a dangerous condition at any location,will initiate audible and visual alarms, trip all running plant including ventilationequipment, and release C0 2 gas into the affected enclosure. Actuation of the fireprotection system shall also. trip gas turbine generating unit and immediately shutoff the fuel supplies to the unit at a point external to the enclosures. There will betime lag of 30 seconds between the ringing of alarm and discharge of C0 2 gas, sothat the personnel working in the package could leave safely.Facilities for alternative manual actuation of the fire protection system shall alsobe provided such that, when the manual mode has been selected the protectionsequence will not proceed beyond the alarm stage without manual action by anoperator.Ghorasal 200 MW to 300 MW Gas Turbine Peaking Power Plant Project (Vol-2 of 3)119
