shall be immediately repaired, at the expense of the Contractor, with fresh mortarmixed in the proportion of one (1) part cement to two (2) parts clean sand. Majorhoneycombed area will be considered as defective work and shall be removed andreplaced at the expense of the Contractor. Any area or section removed shall notbe less than 3 meters in length nor less than the full width of the lane involved.The Contractor shall repair at his own expense all imperfections, or irregularitiesof the concrete pavement in accordance with the direction of the Board.(vii)CuringAs soon as the concrete has sufficiently set, and to prevent the marring of thesurface, the pavement shall be covered with burlap or canvas, which shall be keptwet with clean water for a period of not less than twenty-four (24) hours.After removing the burlap, the pavement shall be covered immediately with eithera layer of earth or sand four (4) centimetres in thickness and shall be kept wet fora period of not less than fourteen (14) days. Ponding of the surface of thepavement may also be adopted for curing the concrete, in which case, the pavementshall be kept under water during the same length of time.(viii)Opening to TrafficFrom the start of curing, the pavement shall be closed entirely to traffic untiltwenty-eight (28) days have elapsed after the concrete was poured.(ix)Cleaning and Sealing JointsAfter completion of the required curing and before opening the pavement totraffic, all Joints shall be thoroughly cleaned of all concrete or aggregatefragments, earth or other foreign material. Longitudinal, expansion andcontraction Joints shall be poured with bituminous sealant to the depth of 40mmfrom the top concrete surface. Only after the joint sealant has thoroughlyhardened shall the pavement be opened to traffic.(x)Protection of Adjacent ConstructionAny adjacent construction such as concrete pavement, curb and gutter, stonemasonry and handrails shall be protected by shields, covers or other means. Ifconcrete is applied to adjacent construction either by accident or because ofinadequate protection, the Contractor shall remove such material as directed andat his expense.(xi)MaintenanceThe Contractor shall be responsible for the maintenance of the surface for aperiod of twenty eight (28) days or until such time as the Board may direct, afterwhich the work shall be accepted in writing by the Board.No extra compensation will be made to Contractor for any maintenance workrequired as specified.
