Theminimum thickness of lime concrete shall be 10 cm.(3) Eaves Gutters and Down PipesEaves gutters shall be of PVC or galvanised steel sheet coated with bitumasticpainting to be approved by the Board. Where large section is required, steel sheetis preferable for strength. Down pipes shall be of PVC pipe, galvanised steel pipeor cast iron pipe to be approved by the Board.(4) Brick Walls -Bricks to be used for walls shall be Bangladesh made. Unless otherwise specifiedor as shown in drawing, the thickness of brick-wall shall be more than 15 cm.Mortar for use with brickwork shall be mixed in the proportions of 1:3cement, sand or 1:2:5 cement, lime and sand by volume. Mortar may be mixed byhand or machine. Hand mixing shall be carried out on a clean, watertightplatform. Cement shall be of a quality as described in the Section 17 for concrete.Sand shall be well-graded (2.5 mm down) hard and free from deleterioussubstances. Lime for mortar shall be pure calcium carbonate properly burned,then hydrated, and finely ground. All joints shall be completely filled with mortar.The thickness of the horizontal mortar Joints shall not exceed 40 mm to everyfour joints. The mortar shall be used within 2 hours of mixing with water and anymortar not used then shall be discarded.All brick-walls are to be reinforced with approved reinforcing material at everyfourth course.The damp proof course shall be provided at joint and intersections laid on a bedof cement sand (1:1), bedded in and coated on the upper surface with liquidbitumen.External fair faced wall shall be weather struck; faces or wall which are to beplastered or rendered shall have their joints raked out to form key.(5) CalkingThe Contractor shall calk the joints to ensure water tightness of the buildingstructures.
