Printing Using an RS-232 Interface<br />

Equipment<br />

w <strong>HP</strong> <strong>8590</strong> <strong>Series</strong> spectrum analyzer with Option 043.<br />

w One of the following cables:<br />

� <strong>HP</strong> 245426 g-pin to 25-pin RS-232 cable<br />

� <strong>HP</strong> 24542U g-pin (f) to g-pin (f) RS-232 cable<br />

I <strong>HP</strong> C2932A g-pin (f) to g-pin (m) RS-232 cable (for use with LaserJet 4P <strong>and</strong> 4Plus)<br />

� Printer with RS-232 Interface, choose one of the following:<br />

I <strong>HP</strong> 500 <strong>Series</strong>* DeskJet<br />

� <strong>HP</strong> 2225 ThinkJet<br />

� <strong>HP</strong> 3630A PaintJet<br />

� MX-80 Epson<br />

� LQ-570 Epson<br />

� <strong>HP</strong> LaserJet<br />

* Some models support color printing<br />

Interconnection <strong>and</strong> Printing Instructions<br />

1. Turn off the spectrum analyzer <strong>and</strong> the printer.<br />

Note The RS-232 interface allows only one device (either the printer or the plotter)<br />

to be connected to the spectrum analyzer. Refer to the Appendix C for more<br />

information on RS-232 protocol <strong>and</strong> cable wiring.<br />

2. Connect the printer using an RS-232 cable.<br />

3. Turn on the spectrum analyzer <strong>and</strong> printer.<br />

4. Press (j-1, Print Cunfig , Pm Pdrt Gunfig , PRI? PORT SER PAR (so that SER is<br />

underlined).<br />

5. To set the baud rate to 9600 baud, press BAUD RATE, 9600, (Hz). lb set the baud rate to<br />

1200 baud, press: BAUD RATE, 1200, @.<br />

Note Some of the programs in this manual utilize 1200 baud. If your system uses the<br />

RS-232 h<strong>and</strong>shake lines, you can use 9600 baud for all of the programs.<br />

6. Press (ZF@, Print Config.<br />
