Stage Fright!

He left his sentence half finished. Only real ghosts
could vanish into fresh air!
‘Go and get your torch John and meet us outside
at the back of the barn. We've got to investigate.’
Sophie had been so surprised by the sight of the
two ghosts that she had forgotten to be frightened and
led the way, ignoring Susie's protests of being scared,
round to the back of the barn.
‘Aaah!’ screamed Susie. ‘A ghost!’
‘It's only me silly,’ said John emerging from the
dark and shining his torch.
‘Right,’ said Sophie. ‘Shine it up at The Forbidden
Door first.’
John shone the torch up and all the children looked
at the creaky old door moving backwards and
forwards in the wind.
‘Now shine it straight down on the ground.’
Sophie crouched down on the ground to where the
torch was shining and started to look carefully
amongst the long grass.
‘What are you looking for?’ asked Susie in a
frightened whisper.
‘Clues!’ said Sophie.
‘But ghosts don't leave clues. They just disappear.’
‘These ones leave clues,’ said Sophie, triumphantly.
‘Look!’
